Equipment Screens
We were chosen as designers and suppliers of decorative equipment screens, balustrading and cladding for Cherry Garden School. As a cutting-edge new build SEN facility in Peckham for the Borough of Southwark, the school provides individualised learning and support for children aged 2-11 with severe learning difficulties, complex needs and autism.

It was a pleasure to work alongside Hawkins Brown a London-based 250-strong architect practice. Hawkins Brown’s project highlights include the Crossrail 1 Elizabeth line, which moves over half a million people around the capital daily, and the Bartlett School of Architecture for the next generation of leading architects.
The main contractor for the project was Galliford Try, one of the UK’s leading regeneration and housebuilding groups. Notable projects for them include the retractable roof for the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, the home of Wimbledon, the St. Georges Hospital Helicopter pad and Queensferry crossing – the largest infrastructure project in Scotland.
This project presented several specific challenges. Plant and machinery required equipment screening which would not only look decorative but keep the area properly ventilated. Our design resolved the practical challenges whilst achieving aesthetic appeal with its decorative pattern and finish. We also provided balustrading for the children’s play terrace area. Here, we were asked to design a screening that had a primary function as an aesthetic addition to the play area, creating a friendly, bright environment for the children. At the same time, the design had to be achieved with no visible fixings, complying with finger trap and anti-climb legislation.

Our pattern design ‘Sakura’ was created in response to the school name and focused on the excitement at the start of a new school term. We reflected the Japanese ‘Sakura’ festival of Cherry Blossom by portraying a canopy of cherry blossom with floating petals cascading down the screens. The resulting effect links to the school name and echoes Japanese cultural references to new beginnings and optimism, whilst working within the architect’s chosen colour palette.
It’s our goal to offer an alternative to mundane and unimaginative equipment screens by offering decorative metal fretwork with a wide choice of finishes and designs. We can either produce a client’s design work to their specification, or create a bespoke pattern for your project.
